Awards
2002
For more than a decade, Northwest Pennsylvania Cooperation Council, and its predecessor, Mercer County Area Labor-Management Committee, has been involved in healthcare cost-containment programs for its labor and unionized member companies. Some examples include a cooperative HMO Medicare Supplement Insurance program for retirees of defunct companies and a Taft Hartley Trust that administers benefits for 1,100 families.
Those long-term and continuing labors earned NwPACC, one of the nine Pennsylvania Governor’s Awards for Labor-Management Cooperation this year. The award, which recognizes organizations that foster labor-management collaboration, was presented September 12, 2002, during a ceremony at the Governor’s residence in Harrisburg. Gov. Mark Schweiker presented the award to Bob Liptak, Management Co-Chair of NwPACC and President of Consumers Pennsylvania Water Company; Frank Laaks, Labor Co-Chair of NwPACC and retired sub-district director of United Steelworkers of America District 10; and Dick Miller, NwPACC Executive Director.
